The Patient Fund

Lebanon: a harsh reality

Today, Lebanon is facing its worse economic and financial crisis in decades, putting pressure on the quality of service at the Hospital. With the exponential increase in the cost of essential medical supplies and equipment, governmental hospitals are being forced to charge patients with the additional costs of essential medical supplies, tools, utensils, medicines etc.…

Parents of sick children needing surgeries or a long term stay in Incubators are not able to afford the minimal medical fee as regulated by the government: (20% of the already reduced government medical bill) plus miscellaneous additional costs.

Furthermore, doctors at the hospital have become reluctant to pursue their mission and be paid for their services based on the old Ministry of health rates. To make matters worse, doctors have not been paid their outstanding dues for over a year.

Due to the devaluation of the Lebanese Lira, the hospital medical and support staff   salary has been slashed by about 85%, making it impossible to make their ends meet and stay actively on the job.

Tough Challenges ahead

To face such a dramatic financial crisis, Assameh-Birth & Beyond could not just stand by and watch the system crumble, imminent solutions were placed in motion through the creation of:

                The” Patient Fund” rescue program

On August 1st 2021 the “Patient Fund” rescue program was launched.

The purpose of this fund is:

  • To compensate the minimal fees and cost of essentials to all patients that are unable to pay their fair share of 20% of the hospitalization fees.
